The Devil's Panties Volume 2 By Jennie Breeden
As writer/artist Jennie Breeden is quick to point out, this is NOT satanic porn. Actually The Devil's Panties is brilliant autobiographical webcomic about one woman's life in and around the geekiest subcultures.
Jennie Breeden works at a comic book store by day, and draws her webcomic by night, while he boyfriend hosts LAN parties in their garage and her cats rule over the household and demand tribute in the form of petting and catfood. The cast includes numerous faces from the comic and anime convention scene, Jennie's extended family, plus Jesus, Satan, and Jennie's own angelic and demonic conscience personas.
Jennie travels to conventions, dances at goth clubs, crashes on dorm couches, and chases after men in kilts. With a camera. And a leaf-blower.
In between the action Jennie discusses feminism and geek culture, religion, and the virtues of alcohol, chocolate, and caffeine.
The black & white art style is wonderfully expressive, and Jennie does a great job of bringing to life her own persona, as well as the various characters she encounters in her travels.
This is a hardcover edition, which is very high-quality for a webcomic compilation, and it sells at a price comparable to many similar-sized softcover collections. Bonuses include a section of annotations with background and trivia for just about every comic in the book, a set of pencil and word games, and Jennie's playing-card art.
This is a great collection, loaded with laughs (definitely adult humor, but smart as well as funny), and a really nice slice of geek life lived to its fullest.

The Devil's Panties Volume 2 was book #3 in my goal of reading 50 books in 2009. On my comic review scale, it gets an 8.5 out of 10.
